The Invitation
There was no academy. We invited a handful of undergraduates to train with us as an experiment. It worked for them and it worked for us, and several were hired permanently. Some are senior engineers here today.

What It Is

Grow Into.
Trainees work alongside senior engineers on live commercial projects, across the technologies those projects actually run on. The point is to practise the fundamentals of programming against real problems, with real consequences, rather than exercises that end when the marking does.
There is no fixed entry requirement beyond genuine interest and commitment. We give weight to people who have started something on their own, whether that is a contribution to an open source project or a small utility built to learn a language.

Take-Home
A project to complete within seven days, plus a short single-take screen recording explaining one real design decision and extending it live.

Technical
InterviewIf shortlisted, a conversation about fundamentals and core concepts. Those matter more than ever now that anyone can have code written for them.

Mentored
TrainingThree months, sequential and assignment-based, with one-to-one feedback from a senior mentor. Help is always available. The work and the study are your own.

Employment
Offered once every assignment and concept is covered, with strong results throughout. You join as an engineer, not as a graduate of anything.

As intakes grew, mentoring one by one became unmanageable. That pressure produced the first real set of tutorials and assessments, which is the backbone of the programme that still runs.

I was one of the first recruited through Fidenz Academy. I went on to become a tech lead, giving leadership to my own team. An advantage I saw at Fidenz was the ability to learn and master many relevant technologies, which I did in a few years.
